So, we have been AWOL for a while. This pandemic has wreaked havoc on everyone. Everyone working from home, you would think you would give you more time for blogging. Reality was more time spent working.
Pandemic be damned, we are coming back. Life must go on and of coure we haven’t stopped experimenting with cocktails.
i trust everyone had a great Christmas & Happy New Year. There was no shortage of cocktails at my house. Celebrations galore!! I received a wonderful book about Gin, How To Drink It, 125 Gins, 4 Ways by David Broom. Like I’m not already the expert on drinking Gin???
I have so many cocktail books now, but my go to is the very first one I got several years ago when I started this endeavor. I love my Meehans Bartenter Manual by Jim Meehan. Rarely does a week go by that I don’t pull out that book for a reference.
The holidays came around and with cocktails on my mind I was searching for the perfect Christmas gift for Lynda & Bob. I found the coolest thing in the Food & Wine Magazine. A Personalized bottle of Santa Teresa Rum. SantaTeresaRum.passionspirits.com and it was a big hit. So far, they have only sipped, but the quality was sip worthy.
I have a few adventures to wow you with. A lot of new experiences under my belt and can’t wait to share.
Christmas Day, I made a couple of people their first ever gin drinks. Martini & Negroni!! Martini stirred not shaken, Negroni with Beefeaters.
Martini
- 2.25 oz. Ford”s Gin
- 0.75 oz Dolin Dry Vermouth
- Lemon Peel
- Garnish – Olive
In a mixing glass (I keep mine in the freezer) Stir with ice, gin & vermouth. Strain into a chilled coupe. Twist a lemon peel over the surface & garnish with an olive.
Negroni
- 1.25 oz Beefeater Gin
- 1.25 oz. Campari
- 1.25 oz. Sweet Vermouth
- 1 orange twist, garnish
Stir with ice, then strain into chilled rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with orange twist,
Can’t get more classic than that.
Buckle up, it’s going to be a great year!!!
Happy New Year !!!!
As always, thanks for reading. And, thanks to Kay for stepping up to get us going again.
Lynda and Kay,
Happy New Year! I’ve been looking forward to a new post from you and you did not disappoint. Negronis might be my favorite cocktail. I had one last night, in fact.
I really enjoy a Vodka martini. I need to work on Gin martinis. I haven’t had one in quite some time. It might be time to give one a try soon.
Have a great 2022. I hope that you don’t work too hard in this work from home environment.
Thanks, Dottie. You should really try the Gin. There are so many different ones now, you might find a new favorite. Look for some recommendations in future blogs.
