Brunch and Bloody Marys

It makes me so happy to be able to have the girls for brunch again. We usually do Mimosas, probably the most popular brunch cocktail. But we have done that so many times I wanted to do something new. I am not a fan of Bloody Marys, but all the girls are and I took this opportunity to create a Bloody Mary bar for them and I had a great time doing it.

I wanted everyone to be able to create their on Bloody Mary creation to enjoy. I provided all the elements for them to do that and they got very creative.

The Bloody Mary Bar Basics

You will need some or all of the following items for your bar set up:

  • Vodka
  • Bloody Mary Mix (I chose pre-mixed to make it easy for my guests)
  • Glasses
  • Rimming salt (recipe below)
  • Skewers
  • Ice
  • Olives
  • Pickles – Dill Spears
  • Pickled Green Beans
  • Celery stalks
  • Parsley
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Lemon Wedges

I used a long narrow tray to put out all the items for building the Bloody Marys. Laying things out and providing varying sizes of wooden skewers to add those goodies to their creations.

This is just a beginning of what you can use. My pre-mix was spicy, so I didn’t need to provide Hot sauce, Horseradish or Worcestershire, all of those things were included in the pre-mix. But if you decide to just use tomato juice and let your guest create their own level of spice you will need those items. My friends were very creative with what was provided and had no complaints.

Brunch Too!!

The brunch menu was simple. Croissant Breakfast Sandwiches with fluffy eggs, bacon, ham and cheese. Fruit skewers with a yorgurt cream cheese dip and two different kinds of muffins. Believe me no one left hungry!

Rimming Salt

  • 2 Tbsp. Salt (I used Fleur de Sel, but any salt will do)
  • 1 Tsp. Smoked Paprika
  • 1/2 Tsp. onion powder
  • 1/2 Tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 Tsp. dill

Use this to rim your glasses for the Bloody Marys

Lynda here. Kay did a super job with the Bloody Mary Bar but I’d like to add that I love making Bloody Marias—using tequila instead of vodka. And, a trick I’ve found to cut the tomato juice just a bit, is to add a splash (about an ounce) of orange juice to the glass along with the mix.

Thanks for reading and be sure to enjoy time with friends this spring!

  1. Do I see a strip of bacon on that Bloody Mary skewer? Yum! I haven’t had a Bloody Mary in years and you have me craving one. Maybe for late day cocktail hour. Maybe with olives stuffed with jalapeño pepper.
    Have a nice holiday weekend.
