CELEBRATION FEBRUARY !!!

Just when you thought you were through celebrating, along comes February. Of course there is always Valentine’s Day for those of you who have wish to share that day with your significant other. Pair a nice wine with something chocolate, or a nice whiskey with the right cigar and make everyone you love happy.

But I have discovered that February has so much more to celebrate. Black History Month, Ground Hog Day is the 2nd, the 3rd is Feed the Birds Day and I love the birds. National Pizza Day falls on the 9th and Super Bowl Sunday is the 13th. Then we get be patriotic and celebrate President’s Day on the 21st. But, the best day to celebrate, in our opinion is National Margarita Day on the 22nd.

My family gets to celebrate a rash of birthdays in February, I think we have about 10 !!!

My Mom shares her birthday with National Margarita Day. Go Mom. So bake a cake, order up some pizza and get out the shaker or the blender, to whip up some great margaritas.

My favorite margarita recipes, frozen and not, come from a great cocktail book a friend gave me several years ago by a fellow Texan, Tipsy Texan by David Alan. I have tried many of the recipes from this book with great success. The Frozen Margarita recipe has been a friend favorite. Always using a 100% agave tequila, silver is fine, but go for Reposado if you must, but there are hundreds of silver (blanco) tequilas that are perfect for making margaritas. Another must, fresh lime juice! Let’s make some margaritas!!

David Alan’s Tipsy Texan Frozen Margarita

  • 2 ounces 100% Agave Tequila
  • 2 ounces Cointreau or Paula’s Texas Orange (most triple sec;s will do)
  • 2 1/2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 ounce simple syrup (agave syrup is a great substitute)
  • salt to rim glasses (mugs or coupes)
  • lime wedge for garnish

Combine the tequila, Cointreau, lime juice and simple syrup in a blender and fill with ice until the ice is just covered by the liquid. Blend thoroughly, it might be necessary to add a bit more ice. Blend and then blend some more to get that restaurant consistency. Pour into a chilled mug or coupe rimmed with coarse salt and garnish with a lime wedge.

If you like, top it off with 1/2 ounce of Cointreau or Grand Marinier for a top shelf Margarita.

David Alan’s Margarita

  • 2 ounces 100 % agave silver tequila
  • 3/4 ounces Cointreau or Paula’s Texas Orange
  • 3/4 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 bar spoon simple syrup – adjust for sweetness
  • lime wedge for garnish

Combine the tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice and simple syrup with ice in a cocktail shaker. shake vigorously with the ice to properly chill, strain into chilled coupe, rimmed with coarse salt, over fresh ice and garnish with a lime wedge.

Thank you for celebrating the great month of February with us. Let’s keep the celebration going!!!
