It’s almost 2020 and it’s a leap year so we have 366 days to enjoy our beloved cocktails. To honor leap year and keeping in the vein of classic cocktails, I found a cocktail called The Leap Year. It was created by Harry Craddock (one of my favorite mixologists) at The Savoy in 1928. The Leap Year has gin (surprise), orange liqueur, sweet vermouth and lemon juice. Stirred not shaken this cocktail is a balance of boozy, sweet and sour. it would be a great way to start your New Year’s eve celebration. Switch over to Champagne (or your favorite sparkling wine) at midnight but give The Leap Year a try for your 2020 New Year’s celebration!
The Leap Year
- 2 ounces gin
- 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
- 1/2 ounce orange liqueur
- 1/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
Garnish: Lemon twist
Glass: Chilled Martini
Place all ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice and stir until well chilled. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a lemon twist.
Have a happy, safe New Year’s Eve and be sure to have your black-eyed peas tomorrow!! Check out last year’s post for a black-eyed pea recipe: https://spiritedtexas.com/happy-new-year/
